ZEUS
& TASHKA GO FREE
I
suppose the Nitani website and Ade's diary, will now be
my very own "face book" of sorts.
With
the tragic passing of my best friend, lover and wife on the
9 April 2008, I must continue the dream that we both shared,
"To live and share our passion of Nitani with all who
pass this way".
Ade's
presence is all around me each day and night and all the wonderful
animal friends still visit me on a daily basis.
Zeus
& Tashka are now just 10 weeks old and have quadrupled
in size.
They have started to make their own kills and after their
6am feed of organic fillet steak & milk, they roam freely
around my camp till 6pm.
It
never ceases to amaze me how their routine never changes and
without the aid of watches, they find me at 6pm, rub up against
me & say, "Dad we are hungry, please feed us".
I
keep them safely indoors in my kitchen for the night, as they
are still small enough to fall prey to the many giant eagle
owls that move up and down the riverine area in front of my
camp.
They
continue to give me great joy and are best buddies with Diesel,
my 12 year old Dachund dog.
Within the next 6 weeks I will start to allow them out for
6 hours at night to cope with their natural environment.
Because
of the resident leopard and hyena at my camp, they will have
to be in peak physical condition to be able to avoid being
eaten by the many predators that pass here each night.
Our
game sightings are very good as a result of the good grass
& water we have on Nitani, from one of the best rainy
seasons ever.
We
have large herds of eland females, who are gathering together
to drop their young, several herds of zebra, Giraffe, wildebeest
and Impala.
The
hyaena have had a little bit of competition from 3 young lions
who have been feasting on zebra & eland over the past
month.
Pula,
our resident leopard female, gave us 3 days of fabulous courtship
viewing with her new lover "Prince". He is Kings
son, the largest leopard we have on Nitani weighing in at
nearly 80kg!
Lastly,
a huge thank you to the more than one thousand friends who
knew Ade and sent such loving, genuine & warm condolences
to me, Taz & Nix.
Shane.
